Gender incongruence in Denmark, a quantitative assessment

Introduction The number of persons with gender incongruence referred to health care is increasing, but national data on the incidence are lacking. aim this study was quantify development in individuals over time and estimate Denmark. Material methods Historical descriptive cohort study. Individuals older than 18 years legal sex-change their person registration were achieved from Statistics Denmark, National Health Register provided contact diagnoses related gender-identity conditions. By combining these two sources, we made estimates rates for Denmark through a 41-year period 1980–2020. Results Through 1980–2020, annual sex-changes increased assigned female at birth 5 approximately 170 among male 10 150. cumulative end 2019 1275 1422 66% below 30 years. Correspondingly, contacts healthcare system due gender-identity-related conditions during 1990–1999 around 500 2017 (both genders combined), 10-fold increase 2010 2017. Conclusions substantially last 40 more decade. This calls research possible explanations increase, short-term long-term consequences hormonal surgical treatment regimens ensuring adequate facilities.
